Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowships


The United States Institute of Peace invites applications for the 2008-2009 Peace Scholar dissertation fellowship competition of the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace.

The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan institution created by Congress to strengthen the nation's capacity to promote the peaceful resolution of international conflict. The Peace Scholar program supports doctoral dissertations that explore the sources and nature of international conflict, and strategies to prevent or end conflict and to sustain peace.
Dissertations from a broad range of disciplines and interdisciplinary fields are eligible.

Peace Scholars work at their universities or appropriate field research sites.
Priority will be given to projects that contribute knowledge relevant to the formulation of policy on international peace and conflict issues. Citizens of all countries are eligible, but Peace Scholars must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the degree except the dissertation by the commencement of the award (September 1, 2008). The dissertation materials must be received in our offices by January 10, 2008. Mary Lou Fulton Internship Grants


The Mary Lou Fulton Internship Grant application deadline is for student wishing to complete an internship in Winter semester is December 1st. I wanted to let everyone know that we have changed the application process, we now have an online application. I have cut and pasted the information below (right from the web site). Would you please send this information to your students and to your department internship coordinator. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Internship Grants



Funds from the Mary Lou Fulton Chair in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences are available to assist students wishing to complete an internship. Grants up to $1,600 are available each academic semester, i.e. fall, winter, and spring-summer. These are competitive awards based on financial need, the quality of the internship, and the degree to which the internship helps support the applicant’s academic and career goals. Both current undergraduate and graduate students who are declared majors in one of the disciplines in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences may apply.

Internship Coordinator Statement


The applicant is responsible for having their department internship coordinator submit a letter which describes the internship, supports the student's decision, and confirms the internship has been secured. If the student has not been accepted for the internship then the letter must verify that the student has submitted an application. Please deliver the letter to 990 SWKT or send it via email to kim_gibson@byu.edu.
