Women Studies Colloquia Presents: The WomanStats Database

Valerie Hudson, Professor of Political Science

Valerie M. Hudson is a professor of political science at Brigham Young University. Hudson’s areas of research include national security affairs, foreign policy analysis, and gender in international relations. She has authored numerous publications, including Bare Branches: The Security Implications of Asia’s Surplus Male Population (with Andrea Den Boer, MIT Press, 2004), which won the Association of American Publishers Award for the best book in political science and the Otis Dudley Duncan Award for best book in social demography. And she was the recipient of the Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Teaching Award. Currently, Hudson heads an interdisciplinary research team constructing the WomanStats database, already the most comprehensive database on the cross-national status of women.
