Ricardo Vernet, PhD
Ricardo is a specialist of comparative politics and international relations. He focusses on social movements, democracy, and authoritarianism in Latin America. His current project explores the divergence in the outcomes of transitions following the overthrow of dictatorships in Haiti and Nicaragua in the 1980s. Prior to joining BYU, Ricardo was appointed Sessional Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary and was a Graduate Resident at the Latin American Research Centre. He received his PhD in political science from the University of Calgary (Canada) in the Fall of 2022.
