NEW WINTER SEMESTER POLI SCI COURSES
The following new winter semester courses may count towards upper-division major requirements. If these courses don’t appear in your MAP, you can contact the Liberal Arts Advisement Center to make a substitution.
POLI 398 Careers Seminar
The Careers Seminar consists of weekly visits by successful professionals with backgrounds in political science.  Recent visitors have worked lobbying, nonprofits, technology and consulting, and government at the state and national levels.  The seminar encourages BYU students to think about different ways of using their political science degree, and also to connect with people in different fields.  Visitors provide practical advice about how to improve one's resume, what to do in interviews, how to approach people in professional settings in person or by email, and how to think about the relationship between your career and the meaning of your life.
POLI 359R: Protests and Revolution
POLI 359R is a very exciting course. The course examines origins of protest movements and revolutions and their political consequences.  Our focus is on key concepts, theories, debates, and cases. An important aspect of the course is a discussion of recent cases of protests. For example, we examine the Sandinistas, Lavalas, Occupy, and Arab Spring. Students usually enjoy this part of the course. We do not cover "the golden oldies" (e.g., French, American, Russian, Chinese revolutions), though we refer to features of these revolutions from time to time. I am happy to answer any questions you have about the course.
