What explains conflict and cooperation both within and between states? This program uses Europe as its laboratory to address these questions. We examine cases in international politics by traveling from London to Istanbul. Students will compare diverse political systems as well as international relationships as they have evolved across Europe. We contemplate the origins of the Cold War at the site where Stalin and Truman first met as well as its collapse at the Berlin Wall. We study civil conflict on location in Northern Ireland and Bosnia. We visit legislative assemblies, international organizations, and the sites of great turning points in history. These visits will help us examine diverse forms of democracy, the rise and fall of fascism and communism, and the origins of the modern international system.

The event is free to attend and lunch is provided. The event is open to anyone interested in attending law school. It will be particularly valuable to individuals from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. This includes but is not limited to, women, racial minorities, members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, people with disabilities, first-gen students, and individuals from rural communities. The Governor's Office is now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 Fellowship Program
This program offers a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in public service and leadership. Unlike a standard internship fellows work directly with senior advisors and cabinet members on a wide variety of initiatives. Importantly, they are given direct exposure to legislative efforts in the spring, from initial policy drafting in January to bill review in April.
Governor's Office fellows are compensated at $15 per hour for their service from January to June (i.e. we ask for a 6-month commitment). This experience helps prepare students for future careers in public service—over 80% of former participants have received full-time employment offers after their time with us.
The application portal for our Spring 2024 Fellowship Program is open until October 31, 2023. We encourage you to share this opportunity with your students and advise them to apply. If there are any questions, please reach out to me. Thank you.
