The BYU Political Affairs Society in conjunction with the Salt Lake Chapter of our department’s alumni association is hosting their annual speed networking event at the state capitol on Friday, February 25th. At this event, you'll get to meet with a variety of BYU alumni who work in state politics.
We will provide a carpool with vans that will leave at 1pm from the McKay parking lot, though you are welcome to drive up separately. We’ll tour the capitol at 2:30pm and have a networking event at 4pm with a variety of BYU alumni working in state politics. Afterwards we will have a dinner at the capitol at 5pm and then return to BYU.
If you would like to participate in this event, you will need to RSVP in person at the receptionist desk in the political science department office on the 7th floor of the KMBL by Wednesday, February 23rd.

The Hunger Banquet increases awareness about world hunger while raising money for international development projects. To simulate approximate world distribution, 75 percent of the students who attend the Hunger Banquet are citizens in developing countries for the night, while 15 and 10 percent enjoy second- and first-world status.
We want to reach out to and invite students across campus who could benefit from participation in the Hunger Banquet which allows anyone with the dream to make a difference in the world to come together in one place.

“Poli Sci Stories” Video Competition
The Department of Political Science is pleased to announce the 2022 “Poli Sci Stories” video competition. All BYU Political Science students, whatever your class standing, are encouraged to create and submit a short video (around 2-4 minutes), which may include both video and photos combined, in any of four categories: 1. Study Abroad; 2. Domestic Study in the USA; 3. BYU Campus Student Life; 4. Internships. Submission for the year 2021-2022 are due on April 1, 2022.
Winning videos will be screened at the Annual Political Science Department awards banquet in April. The winning student will receive $500, with smaller cash prizes for runners up, gifts and Department certificates.“Poli Sci Stories” has been ongoing since 2017, when our first students submitted videos about their experiences being a student at BYU in Political Science.

Utah Academy of Science, Arts and Letters will be hosting its annual conference March 19th this year. We are welcoming submissions for presentations now. The deadline to submit papers for the 2022 Annual Conference is Feb. 22, 2022.
The conference will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at BYU with a virtual option available as well. Faculty and students of Utah Universities are especially encouraged to participate.
Online abstracts submission is now open. Presenters at the conference may submit a manuscript of their presentation to be considered for inclusion in the peer reviewed Journal of the Utah Academy with an outstanding paper chosen in each division and recognized at the annual Awards Evening held in the autumn. Please submit your manuscript to your division chair.
Pre-registration ends March 7, 2022.

Seriatim Journal is a student-run political journal which hopes to support an engaged citizenry by fostering an open marketplace of ideas and encouraging the productive exchange of political speech. By using academic papers as well as original work, we hope to foster greater meaning to students’ work inside the classroom by making it accessible to a wider audience.

As part of the research, they're conducting a series of virtual focus groups, including targeted focus groups for undergraduate students.
