Erin Wells is the city administrator for Highland City. She has experience in project and employee management, communications, policy research and implementation, and statistical analysis. Erin has a Master in Public Administration degree from the Romney Institute at Brigham Young University.

Free Logical Reasoning Workshop presented by TestMasters

When: February 6, 2024 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Mountain Time

The workshop will be conducted by Chris Tucker, a veteran TestMasters instructor with an official LSAT score in the 99th percentile and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. The workshop will focus on the logical reasoning section, which will be two-thirds of the test starting in August. Attendees will be challenged with a series of difficult LSAT questions and Chris will demonstrate the most effective methods for tackling them.

Political Science Research Assistant Job
Prof. Jeremy C. Pope is looking for research assistants to work on analyzing Cooperative Election Study data on demographic trends, ideology, and policy matters.  Competitive candidates have the following.
 
  • At least completion of POLI 200
  • Concurrent enrollment, or completion of POLI 300 or 328
  • An interest in survey research and data on politics
  • Availability of at least 10 hours a week

Research Assistant Positions Available
 
Professor Joel Selway is seeking four research assistants for a project looking at the effect of ethnic structure on various social, economic, and political outcomes. Applicants will need to be competent in Stata. They should have taken Poli 300 (formerly Poli 328) or an equivalent. Interest in ethnicity & nationalism, political economy, civil war and violence, and democracy will be pluses. Pay is $15/hour, and students will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Are you thinking about a PhD in political science? Yale University is hiring college graduates for predoctoral fellowships. 

These are 1- or 2-year positions with competitive salaries and standard benefits such as health insurance. Predocs work with one or more faculty supervisors helping in the capacity specified by the supervisor and they also take 1 class each semester at the graduate or undergraduate level. This program is designed for students who are considering a PhD in political science but either aren’t sure about it or would benefit from the opportunity to take classes and work with faculty before applying.

The Academy for Civic Education and Democracy (ACED) will convene its inaugural cohort in June 2024. ACED is RRI’s in-person 8-week summer program in Washington, DC. Classes will be held at the Ronald Reagan Institute building and accredited by George Washington University. The ACED program is designed to foster the next generation of civic leaders. During the Summer, undergraduate students will immerse themselves in Washington, DC for a profound and experiential learning experience. Students will participate in an accredited course that provides them with the chance to explore history both within and beyond the classroom. Every week, they will not only interact with influential figures from diverse sectors but also put their skills, knowledge, and network into practice through internships. This unique opportunity in Washington, DC will empower students to begin their own leadership journey with confidence and tangible experiences.

YouGov America Internships

YouGov America is hiring two interns for its U.S. News team, which conducts and publishes polls on topics of public interest.

Both the Elections Intern and the Social-media Intern will be focused on politics and elections, can be based anywhere in the U.S., and are paid and part-time for three months. Start date is flexible and can be as soon as the positions are filled. For both positions, survey research experience is valued, as are skills in journalism and writing. The Annual Conference of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters will be held in person on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the University of Utah. The deadline for submissions Fri., Feb. 18!  We invite abstracts, research-in-progress, and papers in the following areas • Political science, history, communication studies, journalism/media, philosophy, foreign languages, and humanities generally.  
 

Conference papers will be considered for publication in the refereed (double-blind, peer reviewed) Journal of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters. One outstanding manuscript from each Division will be selected and its author(s) will receive a cash award. Papers are also eligible for consideration for a cash award for the “Best Paper” awarded in each division. All faculty and student members of the Academy are eligible.  Abstracts for poster and oral presentations are now being accepted as well.
