Recognizing Professor Eric Hyer’s Retirement

During the annual BYU Political Science Christmas Dinner at the Hinckley Alumni Building, Friday evening, December 9, 2022, several professors spoke about Eric’s long career with the Department, and of his many achievements (see story in PSP Fall 2022).

Eric has had a long scholarly career on China and international relations (check out his latest book—The Pragmatic Dragon: China's Grand Strategy and Boundary Settlements); he served as chair of the university’s Asian Studies program for 14 years—instrumental in bringing in a Title VI National Resource Center grant; he was a fantastic teacher, supplying the Poli Sci, IR, and Asian Studies majors with classes on China and Asia, mentoring hundreds of future policymakers, diplomats, and academics; but most importantly, Eric is a deeply good human being and friend. Congratulations on a fantastic career, Eric!! (written by Professor Joel Selway)
