What is Beyond BYU? 
Beyond BYU is a networking event in Washington, DC. BYU students will travel in groups and meet at the offices of various DC PAS Chapter members who work for businesses, Congress, government entities, trade organizations, law firms, political consulting boutiques, international relations groups, and many more to learn what makes D.C. tick. This is your chance to network with professionals in D.C.

DRESS: All students must dress in business attire both Thursday and Friday.

Beyond BYU Itinerary 2023:

Thursday, May 4

Morning:

Location: Capitol Hill Tour; 9 AM, meet at the Statue of Freedom in the visitor’s center, and you enter through the east or backside of the Capitol Building. 45 people total. Three different tour groups. Representative John Curtis’ office is coordinating the tours. Each tour is 15 people, and we will divide up the people who arrive and are there at 9 AM. Please be aware there may be updates. 

Afternoon:

Location: Georgetown Law Center tour, near Capitol Hill. I will post details. Capitol Hill tour as well if too many for the morning. 

Late Afternoon: 

Free Time for Personal Goals and Seeing Washington, DC. This is an important time to target and visit a firm or agency where you would like to work someday, and make your own contacts.

Evening:

Location: Meet at the Kennedy Caucus Room, Russell Building Rm. 325, on Capitol Hill (various Metro stops) Union Station may be the best metro stop.

Reception: 5:30-6:00 PM
Program: 6:00 to 6:45 PM
Welcome: BYUPAS DC Chapter Board member                                                                                      
Keynote Speaker:

Ambassador Jeffry Flake, US Ambassador to Turkey, former US Senator from Arizona.

Question and Answers

Panel Discussion: Building and Maintaining Your Network (working title) 6:45 to 7:30

1. Four panel members- two women and two men
2. 15-20 minute discussion
3. Q&A about 20 minutes

Refreshments and Mingling 7:30 to 8:30

7:30pm to 8:30pm: Networking with VIPs from various trade organizations, law firms, political consulting boutiques, international relations groups, and many more professional organizations. Many of our Friday office visit hosts will be there to talk with you.

Friday, May 5

Location: BYU Barlow Center2520 L Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.

8:00am to 9:30am: Breakfast at the Barlow Center
Students will gather to meet with their group leaders and discuss the day’s site visit agenda. Matthew Clarke from BYU will be available for questions and directions, etc. A grab-and-go breakfast will be provided!

10:00am to 12:00pm; 2:00 to 4:00pm: Site Visits
Starting at 10am, students will meet at the offices of various DC Chapter members who work for trade organizations, law firms, political consulting boutiques, international relations groups, and many more to learn what makes D.C. tick. Sign up for these visits on “Sign Up Genius.” First come first serve. We will discuss this at orientation.

6:30 pm: Networking Reception Session; Beyond BYU Graduate School Information Session and Pizza, BYU Barlow Center. Please tell us which schools/programs/degrees you might be interested in.
